What is left of barracks at Boca Raton, Florida, the first home of the U.S. Army
Air Force Radar Mechanics Training School after the September 1947 hurricane.
The base was damaged beyond repair so personnel and what could be salvaged
was moved to Keesler Army Air Force Base where the Aircraft Mechanics
Training School was located. After hitting Florida the same hurricane had swept
across the Florida panhandle and struck the gulf coast at Biloxi and surrounding
region. Fortunately the Keesler base was much better constructed than the Boca
Raton base.
